three original movie plot ideas by me:
- so these two guys, best pals, grew up together, they buy this car and its a magical car, and cursed. every night at... say... 3:27am a beautiful supermodel appears in it... and in the end they have a fight to death to see who gets the car. there can be only one!
- theres a killer on the loose in the city, and this sexy female cop with tourettes syndrome, a blind construction worker, a jive talking, gun slinging rabbi, and a cigarette smoking arangatan are the only ones who can stop him.
- its totally the future, like the year 2300 or something, and a south american ninja super agent, named armando inumura, must stop an evil american corporation before they wake up a two hundred year old vampire samurai! the catch!? armando has amnesia and is currently living as bob rodriguez, a police officer in atlanta!
i think any of those would be more interesting than anything that came out in the past two weeks.

I dunno ... Bubba Ho-Tep?

And actually, I hear Mystic River is pretty good. Wouldn't mind seeing Runaway Jury, either. Kill Bill was good. The new Coen Brothers movie is out. Wonderland should be fun. Those all came out in the past couple weeks, and although Bubba Ho-Tep hasn't reached Sacramento yet it has opened in most cities. Not that I expect any of those movies to bump Lost In Translation off my best of the year list, but still, I'm actually feeling pretty good about this movie season.

I really wish the new Coen brothers movie looked interesting. :(
Funny you mention samurai vampires, I was reading through BadMovies.org review of The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires, and the vampires happen to know kung-fu. They're no samurais, but everyone knows that Asian people know kung-fu or are samurais, so close enough!

Bubba Ho-Tep is a year old only in the sense that it played two film festivals last year, CineVegas and Toronto. It played five more festivals early this year, but reached its first non-festival audiences September 19. It still hasn't reached Sacramento yet, though.
RottenTomatoes shows Mystic River getting 86% positive reviews. I think it sounds worth a try.

And Coen Brothers movies are always interesting! They take old movie genres and reexamine them. The Big Lebowski, for example, was basically a private eye film with a lazy stoner in the lead role. This one's supposed to be like a thirties screwball comedy.

i'm loving #2. though maybe you could set it in liverpool, and i could play the killer - slaughtering my victims with my unparralled skills of synicism and vitriol seeking ulitmate revenge on a corporation that created and then disregarded me in the pursuit of younger, faster models!
maybe not - i'm going to see kill bill in 5 hours. it'd better be good or some poor usher's gunna get an ear whipping the likes of which he's never experienced before...
btw - safe kid, long time, long time!
